Silver Golub & Teitell Partner Angelo Ziotas Receives Lifetime Achievement Award from Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association

Silver Golub & Teitell senior partner Angelo Ziotas, who has represented plaintiffs in medical malpractice, serious personal injury and business cases in Connecticut for more than 35 years, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association.

Accepting the award at the CTLA's annual meeting on June 8, Mr. Ziotas focused on the shared work of the plaintiffs' bar and the way one lawyer's breakthrough lifts the entire profession.

"We are a bar of competitors. We compete for cases. We compete for verdicts," he said. "But the best of us have always understood that our wins belong to all of us. When one of us breaks new ground, we all move forward."

Mr. Ziotas has won more than 40 trials in which clients received jury verdicts exceeding $1 million in medical malpractice actions, motor vehicle collisions, drownings, an elevator accident and an insurance "bad faith" suit. Among them was a $38.5 million jury award in Stamford to compensate a young boy who suffered severe neurological injuries during childbirth – the largest such verdict in Connecticut history at the time.

He also represented the family of a young mother who was killed by a negligent tractor-trailer driver. The defendants settled after three weeks of trial, while the jury was deliberating, paying a total of $19.75 million – one of the largest wrongful death recoveries in Connecticut history at the time.

Presenting the award to Mr. Ziotas, Silver Golub & Teitell partner Peter Dreyer, the outgoing president of the CTLA, said: "Angelo’s legacy is not only measured in verdicts and settlements, although those are extraordinary. It is measured in the way he has practiced law, the lawyers he has mentored, the clients he has served, and the judgment, generosity and moral clarity he has brought to our profession for decades."

Mr. Ziotas is a past President of the Connecticut Trial Lawyers Association and has continued to stay active in the organization, co-chairing its Legislative Affairs Committee and Medical Malpractice Committees.

Mr. Ziotas is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Trial Advocates and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. He was board certified as a civil trial attorney by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in 1998 and has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America in Medical Malpractice Law and Personal Injury Litigation since 2006. He has appeared in Connecticut Super Lawyers every year since its inception in 2006 and was listed among the Top 10 Connecticut Super Lawyers in 2025.

He earned his J.D. cum laude from the University of Connecticut School of Law, after studying biology and biochemistry at Connecticut College.

Also recognized at the CTLA's annual meeting were the Hon. Glen Pierson, who received the CTLA Judicial Award, and Sen. Bob Duff, the Connecticut Senate Majority Leader, who received the Civil Justice Award.
