Silver Golub & Teitell (SGT) represents individuals, businesses, institutional investors, whistleblowers, policyholders, and governmental entities in class actions and complex civil litigation in Connecticut and across the country. SGT takes on the largest corporate defendants and the highest-stakes disputes, and has recovered billions of dollars for its clients.

Class Actions

SGT is regularly appointed lead or co-lead counsel in significant class actions. The firm secured a $145 million settlement for more than 100,000 investors in Allianz Global Investors' Structured Alpha funds. It won a $30 million settlement against Google and YouTube for illegally collecting children's personal information. Additional class action results include a $60.5 million recovery on behalf of workers in an aerospace industry no-poach case and a $10 million settlement for a class of 2.5 million student loan borrowers in a data breach litigation.

Complex Civil Litigation

In complex civil litigation, the firm has led some of Connecticut's most consequential cases against the tobacco industry, both on behalf of the state itself in its landmark action against the four largest tobacco companies and on behalf of individual Connecticut smokers, including obtaining the first plaintiff's verdict for an injured smoker in New England.

The firm has also represented Connecticut's unionized state employees in a First Amendment case against the State of Connecticut, and 70 Connecticut municipalities in litigation arising from a quasi-public authority's improper $220 million loan to Enron.

Our lawyers regularly represent clients in commercial and corporate disputes, insurance coverage disputes on behalf of policyholders, professional liability actions against non-medical professionals, and direct actions involving defective drugs and products.

The firm's whistleblower practice includes a $150 million recovery obtained under the federal False Claims Act (FCA) against defense contractor United Technologies Corporation, which at the time was the largest ever recovery under the Act.
