Connecticut Law Tribune: Med-Mal Pioneer Richard Silver Is Not Slowing Down

December 10, 2025

The Connecticut Law Tribune published a profile of Silver Golub & Teitell co-founder Richard Silver, highlighting his decades-long career as a pioneer in medical malpractice litigation and his ongoing contributions to the field.

"I love what I'm doing," Mr. Silver told the Law Tribune. "I've tried to maintain being very active in the law and very active in life, and it's kept me acutely aware of things."

The profile traced Silver's journey from his first day of practice in 1960 through landmark cases that helped shape Connecticut's medical malpractice landscape. Silver started his own firm in 1965 and was joined by David Golub in 1970 and Ernie Teitell in 1978, when Silver Golub & Teitell was formed. "Our objective was, frankly, to stay small and be excellent," Mr. Silver told the Law Tribune.

The article highlighted several precedent-setting victories, including the 1976 Connecticut Supreme Court case Katsetos v. Stamford Hospital, which established that medical experts from various specialties could testify on standards of care common to all specialties. It also highlighted a $3.6 million verdict in Pisel v. Stamford Hospital in 1980, the first medical malpractice verdict in Connecticut over $1 million, and a $38.5 million verdict in 2013, which Mr. Silver won with Silver Golub & Teitell partner Angelo Ziotas, in the birth injury case Oram v. DeCholnoky, which was the largest verdict in the state at the time.

The article also took note of his Mr. Silver's collection of antique medical devices, which he said he built up to demonstrate how medical malpractice verdicts had played a role in the evolution of medical devices over the years. Mr. Silver recently donated the collection to Quinnipiac University School of Medicine.
