Law360 Reports on $8.25 Million Settlement in SGT Case Over Child Tracking on Android Apps

January 14, 2026

Law360 reported on an $8.25 million settlement agreement to resolve Silver Golub & Teitell's class action lawsuit alleging that Google secretly tracked the personal information of children under 13 through child-directed apps.

Silver Golub & Teitell, on behalf of the parents, sued Google in June 2023 for violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act and California and Florida state laws. The complaint alleged that Google illegally collected the personal information of children under 13 who were playing apps on the Android operating system that Google had marketed as family-friendly under its Designed for Families Program. Google then showed the children targeted ads based on the illegally collected data, the parents alleged.

The settlement agreement follows a June 2024 ruling denying Google's motion to dismiss the lawsuit. The agreement came the day after U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Van Keulen granted final approval to a $30 million settlement in a lawsuit that SGT brought against Google for tracking children on its YouTube subsidiary.

The case is A.B., a minor, by and through his guardian Jen Turner et al. v. Google LLC et al., case number 5:23-cv-03101, pending in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
