SGT in the News: SGT Partner Paul A. Slager Speaks Up for Abuse Survivors

March 31, 2022

In response to the potential sale of Deer Lake Scout Reservation, attorney Paul Slager is speaking up on behalf of abuse survivors who are at risk of being lost in the conversation. According to court documents, over 200 claims have been filed against the Connecticut Yankee Council, which owns Deer Lake, and nearly 1,000 men have filed claims of abuse against the Boy Scouts in the state. Slager represents the survivors and has expressed concern that the $2.6 million payment to the national lawsuit settlement will not reflect the degree of suffering that these individuals have experienced. He has pointed out that camps like Deer Lake were built and maintained on the backs of participants who paid their fees to the Boy Scouts of America, and that there was a very broad spectrum of child sexual abuse happening in return. While Scout leaders have stated that the money from the sale of Deer Lake will not go directly to the settlement, but rather into their coffers, Slager is fighting to ensure that the survivors are not forgotten in the process.
