Helping the injured
Ms. Whitman’s practice is devoted exclusively to civil litigation, including medical malpractice, birth trauma, wrongful death, personal injury, insurance bad faith, and sexual assault. Ms. Whitman has a particular interest in representing individuals who have suffered catastrophic injuries or become severely disabled due to the negligence of others. Representative medical malpractice cases include failure to perform a timely cesarean section resulting in infant brain damage and cerebral palsy, negligent administration of anesthesia resulting in paraplegia, failure to properly treat infection resulting in blindness, and delayed diagnosis of cancer resulting in death. Ms. Whitman recently litigated a medical negligence case, with partners Angelo Ziotas and Richard Silver, on behalf of an infant who suffered brain damage and cerebral palsy at birth, which resulted in a $38.5 million verdict.
Ms. Whitman received her law degree in 2004 from the University of Michigan Law School, where she served as note editor for the Michigan Journal of Law Reform. While in law school, Ms. Whitman also spent her summer internships working at the Yale and Stanford Law School clinical programs where she gained practical experience representing individuals in asylum and refugee matters, as well as other civil and administrative matters. Ms. Whitman received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard College in 2001, graduating cum laude, with a concentration in Chemistry. While at Harvard, Ms. Whitman was a founding member of EMPOWER, a student organization to promote disability rights and awareness on campus.
